On Saturday, November 15, 2014, Maureen McElaney and Richa Khandelwal from the Dealer.com engineering team in Burlington, VT represented their local GDI (Girl Develop It) chapter at the national Girl Develop It Summit in New York City. GDI has 48 chapters in cities across the United States and over 60 chapter leaders and volunteers gathered at the NYC conference to share ideas on how to increase diversity in the tech industry and discuss their personal experiences.
Anil Das and Celia La were two of the many guest speakers at the summit who spoke on the challenges that the tech industry faces around the gender gap and how to address them. There were various breakout sessions to brainstorm ideas on how to bridge the gender gap in the tech industry and what GDI chapters can do with the help of their cities to empower more women in their community.
Maureen gave a presentation at the summit on how to represent GDI at local and national conferences. Richa and Maureen were proud to hear Dealer.com mentioned several times in various talks as a strong supporter of GDI and the movement for more gender diversity in the tech industry. Various Dealer.com team members from both the Burlington and Dallas offices are active GDI volunteers and support their local chapters by teaching, TAing and organizing classes. Check out your local chapter on the Girl Develop It website and get involved by taking a class or volunteering at the events!
